Statewide Meeting of Air Quality Partners

Thursday, December 3, 2009

On Tuesday, November 10, 2009, representatives from the Air Quality Partnerships of Lehigh Valley - Berks, Susquehanna Valley, Southeast and Southwest PA met in a statewide meeting at the Rachel Carson Building in Harrisburg.

The session began with an overview of the 2009 Ozone and Fine Particulate Monitoring seasons by meteorologist Sean Nolan of the Bureau of Air Quality, PA DEP. Sean also explained the new EnviroFlash Air Quality Forecast system, which you can sign up for under the Daily Forecast menu at

Following Sean's informative presentation and and question-and-answer period, each Partnership recognized outstanding local partners. Lehigh - Valley Berks Chair Keith Williams recognized Channel 69 WFMZ and LANTA for their continued support of our Partnership's mission as well as CAT-The Coalition for Appropriate Transportation and their president, Steve Schmitt. Each Partnership also shared presentations on recent outreach, educational, and Air Quality Action efforts.

Following and update on the State of the Air Quality Partnerships by DEP Bureau of Air Quality Director Joyce Epps, the Partnerships engaged in a roundtable discussion about outreach to potential partners and stakeholders, the use of social media (twitter, Facebook, etc.) as communication tools, and more coordinated efforts.

The statewide meeting was a helpful time of information-sharing and of building relationships with the other regional Partnerships. We plan to reconvene in early Spring, 2010.
